Chotýčany Rail Tunnel, Corridor IV
Modernization of the Nemanice I - Ševětín rail track

Client SŽDC stavební správa Praha 2010-2011

Visualization

Preliminary design for twin-track railway tunnel with length 4810m, 4464m driven by means of NATM (SEM). Comparison of variants of cross sections of two single-track tunnels vs. one twin-track tunnel was further divided according the excavation technique using a TBM or NATM. Another parameter which increased the number of variants was the design speed. The proposed technical solution takes into concideration the necessity of providing access for the intervention of rescue units and for the railway transport operator's activities in case of an accident or fire endangering passengers. The selected variants of the excavation of the tunnels and the solution for escape routes are the most advantageous economically and most acceptable ecologically.

Votice Rail Tunnel, Corridor IV
Modernization of the Votice - Benešov u Prahy rail track

Client HOCHTIEF, a. s. 2009-2011

Concreting sequence of reinforced lining

The Votice cut-and-cover doble-track railway tunnel is 590m long with a seepage resistant concrete lining. Its structure is original through the bracing at the bottom against sides of the construction trench and the method of reinforcing the lining. The construction trench was dug using blasting, supplemented by a rock roadheader. The surface of the rock mass was stabilised with high-strength mesh and 6m long all-thread bars inserted into grout. The tunnel concrete reinforcement was designed as a self-supported structure with reinforcement bars as in mined tunnels, what eleminated the need of formwork for instalation of reinforcement and sped up the building time.

Olbramovice Rail Tunnel, Corridor IV
Modernization of the Votice - Benešov u Prahy rail track

Client SUBTERRA, a. s. 2009-2011

Breakthrough

Construction design for twin-track railway tunnel with length 480m, 360m driven by means of NATM (SEM). Driven sections are insulated by waterproofing membrane, cut-and-cover sections are made with a seepage resistant concrete lining. Thickness of the primary lining corresponds to the anticipated geoetechnical parameters and behaviour of the rock mass in individual sections of the excavated tunnel route, the thickness of the final lining is constant through the tunnel length.
The part of the Trans-European route E55 which runs through Czech Republic consists of the 4th railway transit corridor Děčín (border with the FRG) - Prague - České Budějovice - Horní Dvořiště (border with Austria). Objectives of the upgrading of tracks are to reach the spatial passability for rail cars of the D4 UIC track loading class and UIC GC loading gauge, to ensure the required carrying capacity of tracks and to increase the speed limit to 160 km/h.

Excavation copmpleted

Construction design for twin-track railway tunnel with length 324m, 216m driven by means of NATM (SEM). Driven sections are insulated by waterproofing membrane, cut-and-cover sections are made with a seepage resistant concrete lining.
All tunnels within this track section are designed according the Standard Sheet for twin-track tunnel cross section, which unifies the geometry of the internal contour of lining for both cut-and-cover and mined tunnels. All tunnels have, therefore, identical shape of the upper vault lining; the shape of safety recesses, emergency walkways and the space for the ballast and trackwork.

Breakthrough

The southern section (Lot 513: Vestec - Lahovice) of the Prague City Ring Road passes across Vltava and Berounka Rivers valley and then it ascends, heading to Cholupice. The designed alignment requires the construction of new tunnels. The route leads firstly through 70m long cut-and-cover tunnel and then, after short opencut section, passes into driven tunnel of almost 2km total length. Both tunnels are designed as twin-tube structures. Project included design of portal pits, cut-and-cover and driven tunnel sections, covered tunnel, stormwater sewage shaft and adit, ventilation shaft and M&E objects on both portals.

Vizualisation

Designed tunnel is a part of feasibility study for Český Krumlov city center by-pass. The study introduces all construction participants into difficulties of underground constructions. The resulting design is a compromise of technical and safety demands for construction and operation of the tunnel in straitened urban area within difficult geographical conditions.

Excavation round the caved Perforex

The construction of Březno railway tunnel (1758m long, single track) was interrupted on May 2003 due to extensive collapse while using pre-cut tunneling method by means of Perforex machine. The shaft with secant piles lining served for the removal of the buried machine and construction of the emergency exit. Excavation pit with diameter 21m and depth 35m was supported by 70 piles with huge reinforced walers.

Southern portal

The Libouchec highway tunnel is situated in the D8 highway section near the German border. The tunnel is a twin-tube structure. Total length of the western tunnel tube is 520m, the eastern tunnel tube is 492m long. Further the western tunnel passes into the gallery 160m long. Both tunnels have been driven by means of NATM and they are supported by two-layer lining with membrane waterproofing. This tunnel structure presents a first use of non-reinforced final lining in Czech Republic.
