Railway Tunnel Veprek - Prague/Dresden

Libor Mařík

Railway Tunnel VeprekThis tunnel is a part of the project "Modernization of the Track between Kralupy nad Vltavou and Vraňany". Its total length is 390m. The middle section is 272m long and is tunneled by means of NATM; the two end sections are built by cut-and-cover method - the section at the Prague tunnel face is 58m long, and the section at the Děčín tunnel face is 60m long; all the sections have a profile of 69m2. The clearance height of the tunnel profile is 6m.

The tunnel lining is a double-tube with intermediate insulation in the upper part of the vault. The insulation layer is protected by geotextile. The lower part of the tunnel vault is not insulated. The insulation is equipped with a signalling layer, which would enable, if needed, to clearly identify any defect, and, eventually, to repair such damaged place. The insulation is welded by double weld. The tunnel includes emergency niches, which are positioned in a regular spacing of 20m on both sides of the tunnel in pairs.
